About Us
Mettae: Visual Readings of Chinese Wisdom for Self-Reflection
Mettae is a traditional Chinese culture website in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. It offers BaZi (Four Pillars) charts, BaZi compatibility, I Ching (Liu Yao), tarot and Chinese zodiac tools, plus gentle emotional-support conversations. All system charts and visuals are free; AI deep readings are paid per pass or for 30 days. Everything here is for cultural exploration and self-reflection.
What sets us apart is visual reading: we turn complex results into charts you can understand, with plain-language explanations.
A BaZi chart is also known as the Four Pillars of Destiny or a Chinese birth chart (四柱八字 or 生辰八字 in Chinese). Liu Yao is the I Ching coin method, also called coin divination (六爻, 金钱卦).

What do the common terms mean?
Here are short definitions of terms used across the site. Follow each link to the matching guide or tool to learn more.
- BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny)
- Your birth year, month, day and hour each match a pair of Chinese characters (a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch). Four pairs make eight characters, hence "BaZi" (eight characters), also called the Four Pillars.
- Five Elements
- Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Traditionally, the ways they support and restrain each other describe how things relate.
- Day Master
- The Heavenly Stem of the day you were born. In BaZi it stands for you.
- Ten Gods
- Ten names that describe how each other character in a BaZi chart relates to the Day Master, such as Friend, Direct Wealth and Direct Officer.
- Six Lines (I Ching)
- A traditional I Ching method: toss three coins six times to build a hexagram of six lines.
- Chinese Zodiac (Shengxiao)
- Twelve animals matched to birth years, so everyone has a zodiac animal.
How is my data handled?
The free BaZi calculator runs in your browser and never uploads your birth details. If you sign in, you can export or delete your account data at any time.
Personal data such as birth details is stored encrypted. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number. See our Privacy Policy.
